Scholar's Tools

Computer, as a great and important tool, also is very useful/helpful to scholar's activity. In this page, I will give links of some programs, which can increase your productivity. If you have any favorites that is not listed here, please tell me.

Scholar's Aid

"Scholar's Aid is the finest tool for study and research that you can have. This software manages all your bibliographical data and all your notes associated with the sources. Footnotes, parenthetical references, and bibliography and reference lists are all created automatically and transferred directly into your word-processor. When you transfer all or part of a note to your document, Scholar's Aid automatically cites the text with page numbers for you. It supports the following word-processing programs: Microsoft Word 6, 7, 97; WordPerfect 6, 7, 8; WordPro 97."

I am preparing some electronic bibliographies with Scholar's Aid, click here for download a small bibliography(177 items, LR format) on Dependency Grammar. The treating fields also inculde 'interlinguistics', 'computational linguistics' and 'language planning'.

EndNote

EndNote is a reference database and a bibliography maker. But, it also is an online search tool that really is useful to the researcher, because you can "search online bibliographic databases just as easily as you can search an EndNote library on your own computer! And to make it even easier, the results of your searches appear as EndNote references — ready for you to store in your own EndNote library." Now I use EndNote as the preprocessor of 'Scholar's Aid' reference processor for gathering the bibliographical information.

WordSmith Tools

WordSmith Tools is an integrated suite of programs for looking at how words behave in texts. You will be able to use tools to find out how words are used in your own texts, or those of others.

The Wordlist tool lets you see a list of all the words or word-clusters in a text, set out in alphabetical or frequency order. The concordancer, Concord, gives you a chance to see any word or phrase in context -- so that you can see what sort of company it keeps. With KeyWords you can find the key words in a text.

AllChars

With this small program, you can easily input all characters of Latin-set. Unfortunately, it does not works well with Chinese Windows.

EmEditor

A super text editor, EmEditor v3, supporting Unicode and Plug-Ins.

WebCompiler

A good tool to make electronic book in html format.
